What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a simple, painless treatment used to repair damaged teeth, cover up cosmetic imperfections, or replace an amalgam (silver) filling. Bonding is a customizable treatment, as we’ll use a tooth-colored resin to correct chips, cracks, and gaps in your teeth that will seamlessly blend in with your surrounding smile. This affordable procedure is a great way to restore your oral health and achieve a beautiful smile.

Our Triad team can use dental bonding to fix the following issues:

  • Decayed teeth
  • Tooth chips or cracks
  • Discolored or yellowed teeth
  • Noticeable gaps and spaces
  • Short, mishappen teeth
  • Exposed tooth roots
  • Receding gums
Periodontal Disease

Benefits of Dental Bonding

Our dental bonding services provide patients with an array of favorable benefits, including:

  • Non-Invasive — Bonding requires no surgery and the treatment is virtually painless.
  • Affordable — The bonding treatment is an inexpensive way to repair your teeth.
  • Quick Treatment  — Your new smile can be completed in just one appointment.
  • Versatile — The dental resin we use for bonding is flexible and durable, allowing our Archdale dentists to utilize this treatment for preventive and cosmetic care.
  • Long-Lasting — A bonding treatment can last up to 10 years or more with proper oral hygiene care.

What To Expect During
the Bonding Procedure

The entire dental bonding treatment can be completed in one quick appointment at Triad Cosmetic Dentistry. However, if you have many teeth that need to be bonded, you may require additional appointments. Bonding takes about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth. Since bonding is a very gentle treatment, dental sedation isn’t usually needed.

Unlike veneers or crowns, there’s little to no preparation needed before beginning the procedure. One of our dentists will start by precisely matching a composite resin to your surrounding smile for a flawless finish. The resin will bond to your tooth, be smoothed to an ideal shape, and topped off with a polishing treatment. Then, you can leave our office with a beautiful smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the dental bonding procedure painful?

No, dental bonding is a virtually painless procedure. The affected area in which the tooth is bonded isn’t sensitive so dental sedation isn’t needed. In certain cases we may use sedation when a tooth is completely decayed, a tooth is chipped close to the nerve, or a tooth needs to be reshaped or drilled.

Our Triad dentists have years of bonding experience so you can rest assured that your procedure will be comfortable and easy.

How do I care for a bonded tooth?

It’s important to take proper care of your bonded tooth to increase its longevity. Here are a few tips on how to properly care for your teeth after a dental bonding treatment:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day
  • Floss your teeth daily
  • Avoid coffee and tobacco products to prevent unwanted staining
  • Avoid hard candy
  • Visit Triad Cosmetic Dentistry twice a year for regular checkups
Is dental bonding permanent?

No, dental bonding isn’t a permanent treatment. However, our bonding material is designed to last up to 10 years when properly cared for. Caring for your teeth after a bonding treatment is as easy as taking care of your natural teeth. Brush and floss regularly and schedule biannual visits to help maintain healthy teeth, gums, and long-lasting bonding. If you have any questions about our bonding treatment, please call our dental office at (336) 434-3186, and one of our experts will be happy to assist you.
